Pozycja Modern solution of tube telecommunication tower - problems, analysis and perspectives(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2022) Szafran, J.; Juszczyk-Andraszyk, K.The paper emphasizes aspects that have to be addressed when analyzing monopole structures, such as vortex excitation occurring due to a repeating pattern of vortex shedding in the flow of air around a tower (von Kármán vortex street). The fatigue analysis is discussed in detail in the paper and it presents solutions that were introduced on the basis of the analysis results in order to reinforce certain areas of the tower (stress concentration in the vicinity of structural details required due to technological reasons).Pozycja Determining propertires of polyures coating as a material potentially strengthening structural elements(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2022) Szafran, J.; Matusiak, A.The paper discusses the results of experimental research on polyurea. In authors’ opinion, this material could be used to improve load-carrying capacity and integrity of structural elements made of various materials. The paper presents the results of research on basic mechanical properties of polyurea, its impact on integrity of cellular concrete specimens and full-scale concrete rings. The additional polyurea layer on outer surfaces of test specimens improves mainly their integrity following their complete failure. It must be noted, however, that when the additional layer is present, it does not improve all strength properties of test specimens such as resistance to compression of cellular concrete specimens. It was revealed that this property may be negatively influenced by the level of constrainment.Pozycja Reinforcement of Lattice Tower Legs Made of Angle Sections(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2021) Szafran, J.; Telega, J.The main goal of this paper is to present the results of the buckling resistance analysis of two types of unconventional reinforcement of legs of a telecommunications tower by means of equal-leg angle sections. The key reinforcing elements are round solid bars that are connected with the angle section in various ways. Two types of connection between an existing leg and reinforcing elements were considered: stiff (welded) and frictional (based on friction between round solid bars and sheet plates around them). The reinforced element was loaded by a surface force applied at the upper end of the angle section. The paper discusses the impact of how the reinforced and reinforcing elements were connected on the value of the critical force. For the frictional connection, it was also shown how environmental conditions (wet or dry) and the resulting friction coefficient influence the form of buckling and the failure mechanism. Calculations were made with FEM numerical analysis using the FEMAP software.Pozycja Polyurea Coatings as a Possible Structural Reinforcement System(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2021) Szafran, J.; Matusiak, A.This paper describes studies completed under the research project “Polyurea coatings as a possible reinforcement system”. It primarily aims at assessing the usability of polyurea coatings for improving the performance of components of building structures. Basic studies on polyurea, simple physical tests and full-scale experiments were carried out for drawing up this paper. Their outcomes were analyzed, and the performance of the coating and its effect on building components was evaluated. The results of the analysis show that applying the polyurea coating makes it possible for structural elements to maintain integrity after their load-carrying capacities were exceeded, and helps improve other functional properties of a structure.
