Synthesis of carbon ferromagnetic filled nanocontainers using CVD technique
    (Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2018-11-23) Pietrzak, Ł.; Wąs, Ł.; Wyczechowski, M.; Raniszewski, G.; Gmyrek, Z.; Firych-Nowacka, A.; Smółka, K.
"In this article iron filled multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Fe-MWCNTs) synthesis using LS-CVD (Liquid Source Chemical Vapour Deposition) technique is presented. Described synthesis process has been chosen because of easy process parameters alteration, allowing to obtain a carbon nanotubes with the desired properties, such as type of carbon nanotubes (changing catalyst and process parameters) – SWCNTs or MWCNTs and physical properties like length, diameter and encapsulated inside Fe content. Tailoring material properties is the key to use Fe-MWCNTs in medicine for the cancer diagnostics and therapy e.g. hyperthermia process. In the paper both optimization of synthesis process leading to high purity, high iron content nanocontainers production and characterization of obtained material is presented."

Selective thermal ablation of cancer cells by ferromagnetic containers
    (Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łodzkiej, 2018-11-23) Kołaciński, Z.; Raniszewski, G.; Szymański, Ł.; Pietrzak, Ł.; Wiak, S.; Frączyk, J.; Majsterek, I.; Przybyłowska-Sygut, K.; Mościcki, A.; Kamiński, Z.
"The limited effectiveness of conventional cancer treatment therapies and its detrimental effects on the body of the patient have proved that we need to look for new, better, methods of curing those fatal diseases. There is an indisputable need for introducing a localized treatment that would be harmful only to malignant cells, leaving the healthy ones unscathed. The paper shows one of the ways how to do it."

Mobile device path planning basing on the fractional potential
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2015) Ostalczyk, Piotr; Bąkała, Marcin; Duch, Piotr; Sankowski, Dominik
The aim of the paper is to develop new quick and safe algorithms used for mobile device path planning [1,2,6,7,8,10,13,19]. The path should lead the device to some predefined target without striking the obstacles. In the proposed algorithms, applying fractional-calculus [12,14-18,22] where the frac- . tional-order differences [17,18] are defined one evaluates the generalised fractional potential [3,5,11,20,21] defining the level of an obstacle danger. Autonomous mobile devices equipped with safe paths creation abilities are valuable in different real-life situations. One can mention catastrophe areas with different types of obstacles of different obstacle danger. Applying the fractional calculus with mentioned earlier integrals of any, fractional orders one can create 3D space with better indication of the danger zones. Next one defines an optimal, safe path.[...]

Computer aided evaluation of selected examination tasks in mathematics using generalized Hough transform
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2015) Stoliński, Sebastian; Bieniecki, Wojciech
In this chapter an image processing algorithm for automatic evaluation of scanned examination sheets is described. The discussed image contains selected geometric figures drawn by hand on a printed coordinate system. This type of task is characteristic of final high school exams of natural sciences. Our challenge was to develop an evaluation algorithm, which works with a precision comparable to the teacher. If the image contains the correct solution, the algorithm should husk it from a set of random lines, deletions, amendments, drafts, bearing in mind, that lines were drawn by hand. In addition, the algorithm should calculate scores for partially correct solutions. An essential part of our proposal is based on Hough transform (for recognizing lines) and generalized Hough transform (for recognizing non linear shapes). The proposed solution is flexible and can be extended to other types of tasks such as drawing geometrical figures.[...]

Tackling the computer overuse as a cause of chronic musculoskeletal disorders with the concept of a tangible personal persuasive avatar
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2015) Kosiński, Tomasz; Grzelak, Piotr; Kucharski, Przemysław; Romanowski, Andrzej; Chaniecki, Zbigniew
[...] The presented work, introducing a prototype of interactive avatars persuasive system into employees' natural workplaces, provided an opportunity of insight into human behavior at work and the possible problems to the company's productivity. The results of evaluation stage confirmed the impact that such a real avatar has on the user and revealed system improvement areas. It is intended to adjust robot's operations and sound persuasion stage. The evaluation phase is to be reviewed within the interdisciplinary team in order to provide the most accurate assessment methods. It was proven that human behavior can be changed in an unobtrusive way, without the need of announcing the official regulations, effectively.[...]

Application of multitouch technology for educational purposes in primary school
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2015) Busiakiewicz, Mateusz; Romanowski, Andrzej
[...] This chapter presents application of multitouch educational game for introduction basic science terms and information for early elementary school students. The project is a multitouch educational game, aimed at the early elementary school children, titled ProjectWizard. Since children at the age are highly vulnerable to any stimuli, it is extremely important to lead them in the correct direction. It is not that important to convey them as much information as possible, but rather to excite the attention of children in science, pick their interest. The application could be used as an enhancement tool for learning at home, but also as a supplement to science classes, or during extra-curricular science activities. The effect in terms of qualitative feedback, its efficiency in enhancing learning, as well as the most important aspects of such applications are discussed here.[...]

Numerical calculations accuracy issues in basic programming teaching
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2015) Brzeziński, Dariusz; Rowińska, Zdzisława; Gocławski, Jarosław
[...] In the chapter there are discussed basic types of floating-point calculations errors which results from the application of numerical methods: • errors resulting from number systems differences (binary vs. decimal), • errors resulting from differences how the input data is treated (discrete vs. continuous), • errors resulting from limitations of binary arithmetic. There are also served short characteristics of the errors, in many cases supplemented by examples of their occurrence. The authors pointed out, that the standard level of accuracy offered by widely applied developments environments are not sufficient to achieve the highest precision in case of today's computational problems. Some methods to achieve this goal are given. There are discussed the effects of propagation and accumulation of basic types of computational errors aroused as an effect of arithmetic operations and selected functions transformations.[...]

    Generating and modelling network traffic
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2015) Zarzycki, Maciej; Romanowski, Andrzej; Sierszeń, Artur; Sturgulewski, Łukasz
[...] This chapter presents a flexible and scalable approach to automated network adapter testing. It defines a model that can be used to develop complete testing scenarios that reflect the usage patterns seen in todays networks. The work also implements a tool capable of understanding the model and conducting the test scenario. This application is written with performance and ease of extending in mind so it should evolve to meet the the ever changing requirements.[...]
