Post-ultimate behaviour of thin-walled cold-formed steel open-section members in pure and eccentric compression
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2016) Dubina, Dan; Kotełko, Maria; Ungureanu, Viorel
This chapter is a review of research in recent years as a result of collaboration between the Department of Steel Structures and Structural Mechanics of Politehnica University of Timisoara and Department of Strength of Materials of Łódź University of Technology related to a load carrying capacity, post-failure behaviour and plastic mechanisms of failure of thin-walled cold-forms steel (TWCFS) members subjected to compression and/or bending.

Postbuckling of delaminated thin-walled composite columns subjected to compression
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2016) Gliszczyński, Adrian; Kubiak, Tomasz
Susceptibility to delamination is one of the major weaknesses of many advanced laminated composite structures. An integral element of research on composite structures is the analysis of the phenomenon accompanying with delamination formation. The sources of their formation should be already sought at the manufacturing stage when the delamination can occur due to the incorrectly selected autoclaving process parameters as well as their initiation can be initiated by the low velocity impacts , affecting also the local degradation of the stiffness of the material. Laminated fibre-reinforced composites made of high strength fibres in a relatively weak matrix material are susceptible to delamination (i.e. separation of the layers) . The physical quantities describing the initiation of delamination is the stress intensity factor or energy release fracture toughness. In comparison to the widely used isotropic materials i.e. steel or aluminium, the energy release rates of laminates are almost one hundred times smaller which confirms their relative propensity to delaminate .

Buckling strength of FML profiles of ‘classic’ versus thin-ply design
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2016) Mania, Radosław; York, Christopher
The past few decades have seen the introduction of fiber metal laminates (FMLs), especially GLARE, into primary structure applications such as the fuselage of the largest civil transport aircraft in current production: the Airbus A380. GLARE material properties, as well as FMLs in general, exhibit partly metallic and partly composite behaviour. The hybrid nature of FML has several advantages when compared with monolithic aluminium application to fuselage skins, i.e. lower density and crack arresting capability of the fiber layers in presence of a fatigue cracks, which are a major concern in the design of monolithic aluminium . The possibility to tailor the material to meet specific structural or mechanical requirements, by appropriate orientation of the fibers layers, is especially important. These features allow to some extent the concerns about `flying with undetectable fatigue damage´, which influences inspection intervals and the economics of airframe maintenance

Mathematical modelling and investigations of the hexapod robot
(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2016) Awrejcewicz, Jan; Grzelczyk, Dariusz; Stańczyk, Bartosz
Legged locomotion is the most common locomotion form in nature which is used by numerous animal species in order to move on the Earth. It motivated and became the inspiration for many researchers for the construction of walking machines which belong to the most important group of mobile robots met in engineering applications. There are numerous examples of both biological inspirations and constructed prototypes of multi-legged robots (including hexapod robots) investigated. Interesting state-of-the-art in this area can be found in papers . In particular, in reference a summary of biological paragon from nature, methods of investigations of legged locomotion and the constructed multi-legged robots are presented and discussed.

Corner radius effect in the thin-walled columns of regular polygon cross-section on the local buckling and load carrying capacity
(Lodz University of Technology Press, 2016) Kamocka, Monika; Królak, Marian; Mania, Radosław, J.
Authors of this work have been investigated a corner radius effect on the local buckling of thin-walled structures. For each considered regular cross-section shapes (i.e. triangular, square, regular pentagon or hexagon) different values of corner radii were applied taking into account a constant area of a column crosssection. This study appears to be some kind of an optimizing analysis of thinwalled members without fundamental formulation.
