This paper compares two strategies for the reconstruction of nonvisible parts of the object surface from a single RGB-D camera view. The first method, named DeepSDF predicts the Signed Distance Transform to the object surface for a given point in 3D space. The second method, named MirrorNet reconstructs the occluded objects’ parts by generating images from the other side of the observed object. Experiments performed with objects from the ShapeNet dataset, show that the view-dependent MirrorNet is faster and has smaller reconstruction errors in most categories.Pozycja 5-hydroxymethylfurfural content in selected gluten- and gluten-free cereal food products(Lodz University of Technology Press, 2017) Mańkowska, Dorota; Majak, Iwona; Bartos, Adrian; Słowianek, Marta; Łącka, Agata; Leszczyńska, Joanna5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) was determined with HPLC method in forty one food samples, including gluten-free, breakfast cereals and bakery products. The highest concentration of HMF was found in wheat bread with cranberries (210 mg kg-1) and in breakfast cereals – honey wheat loops (85.099 mg kg-1). In contrast, wholegrain oatmeal and gluten-free sponge cakes had the lowest HMF level of all tested samples, below the detection limit and 0.485 mg kg-1, respectively. In most cases, lack of gluten coincided with the lowest HMF content readings (average 8.488 mg kg-1). The impact of the type of sugar, especially glucose, on the HMF concentration in food is apparent. Sweetened breakfast cereals, with the average content of HMF at 25.55 mg kg-1, took lead over dietary products (8.488 mg kg-1) and bakery products (18.395 mg kg-1), with the exception for wheat bread with cranberries. These cereals contained glucose or glucose-fructose syrup.Pozycja 50 lat Inżynierii Materiałowej w Politechnice Łódzkiej(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2023) Kula, Piotr; Gawroński, Zbigniew; Wendler, Bogdan; Klimek, Leszek; Rylska, DorotaPozycja Aaron Earned an Iron Urn: Speech-to-IPA Models Improve Diagnostic of Pronunciation(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2023) Olejnik, Franciszek; Stachowiak, Rafał; Krysińska, Izabela; Morzy, MikołajLearning the proper pronunciation is one of the key aspects of foreign language acquisition. Assessment of the correctness of pronunciation requires the involvement of expert phoneticians and linguists, severely limiting the scalability of learning solutions. However, the recent adaptation of the Transformer architecture to the audio domain opens the way for automatic model-based assessment of pronunciation. In this paper, we present the pronunciation diagnostic tool developed at PUT and we experimentally evaluate the correlation between expert human assessment and automatic model assessment. By combining the Wav2Vec model and the IPA representation, we prove that pronunciation assessment can be performed automatically with high precision.Pozycja Ab initio investigation of ethanol-tetracene interactions during adsorption(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2018) Kania, Sylwester; Kościelniak-Mucha, Barbara; Słoma, Piotr; Wojciechowski, KrzysztofAb initio calculations presented in this work are performed to investigate the geometry, interaction energy and bonding properties of binary complexes formed between neutral ethanol and tetracene molecules. Two different geometries were applied for the study. The interaction energies between molecules in the complex posses minimum at the distance of about 3.6 A among oxygen atom in ethanol and the neighbouring carbon atom of tetracene skeleton.Pozycja Academic burnout among higher education students(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2023) Staniec, Iwona; Hanczka, Aleksandra; Szczygieł, NinaPozycja Academic contribution to collective building of the city – An experience in the countryside of Ceará – Brazil(Lodz University of Technology Press, 2023) Okretic Gabrielle; Mudo Eloise; Viana Franklin; Adrião Yara; Adilson Manuel; Mendes Brenda; Holanda Virginia; Farias CiceraThe appropriation of space is directly linked to the sense of belonging and identity of the place and with place. When the population participates in the planning process, the way of appropriation of the public space is differentiated and much more effective. Based on this assumption, the research group Collaborative Urbanism – UrbColab, linked to the Research Center in Architecture, City and Technology – NuPACT, aims to foster discussion about aspects of daily life that influence the collective construction of the city, more specifically in the small and medium-sized cities of Ceará (Brazil), promoting a dialogical relationship between academia, society and the public power. By working horizontally and inclusively, we make room for the demands that appear and that is in line with the group’s proposal. Among them, as a partial result, we are consolidating three work fronts that emerged as demands: technical assistance in the preparation of the Carnaubal Master Plan; creation of proposals for the revision of the Sobral Master Plan and; training cycle for the preparation of Participatory Master Plans. This article aims to show the importance of academic engagement in the discussions of the city as a way to disseminate knowledge and be able to act effectively in the construction of more dignified and inclusive cities.Pozycja Accelerated hydrolysis of PLA fibers at low temperature(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2022) Tarbuk, Anita; Čorak, Ivana; Đorđević, Dragan; Draczyński, ZbigniewThe polylactide (PLA) is the most common biodegradable material. However, its biodegradation requires hydrolysis of PLA to oligomers or monomers before microbes can act. Hydrolytic degradation of PLA depends on temperature, time and relative humidity. It takes months and years until complete biodegradation. If a catalyst is introduced, i.e. alkali or alcohol, it can be done in weeks. In this article, the alkaline hydrolysis was performed at low temperatures 40-60°C without and with the addition of cationic compound as an accelerator for the purpose of saving energy and time for complete PLA degradation. It has been shown that complete degradation can be achieved in only 10 min at 40°C.Pozycja An across scale comparative morphological analysis Mapping the landscape structure of Lingnan and Jiangnan(Lodz University of Technology Press, 2023) Cai Jiaxiu; Lin Xiaoyu; Liu Hanlu; Liang Xinying; Lin Yuxin; Wang QiUrban landscape is a complex system. The understanding of the underlying mechanism of each subsystem and their dynamic interaction is quite crucial for human intervention regarding future development. This requires a systematic scientific approach. A cross scale analytical framework is processed which integrates the Dutch morphological school technique – reduction drawing and layer approach to systematically interpret the urban landscape. In order to exemplify the potential and the generic property of the approach, the research applies heterogeneous case study. Explorative analyses are performed on two cases in different region in China. The production landscape in Pearl River Delta and Tai Lake region are mapped on geography, landscape, settlement and architecture and public space scale respectively. Their form and formation are discussed with the maps. Comparison regarding the form of the water, pond, difference of typologies, and the scale and form of the settlements are made. Research shows the dependence and interrelation between scales. The author believes that mapping is an effective analytical and design process as well as well-presented products. The logic of the complex space and design strategies reveals itself along the process. The cross-scale mapping facilitates a comprehensive understanding of urban landscape. It is a prerequisite of design.Pozycja Adaptacja kooperatywna(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2013) Stańczyk-Hugiet, Ewa; Cyfert, SzymonArtykuł podejmuje zagadnienie adaptacji, ujmując je jako podstawową strategię w selektywnym otoczeniu. The very existence of the town was often justified by market frontage, manifest in the street. The street as route has a significant place in the history of urban form. In this the street was the binding element of public realm, serving the line of frontage by which the private plot interacted with the public space of the town or city. Here the buyer expected to find the seller. Even when urban plots began to collect into blocks, the block edge still formed the primary front line between sale and purchase. The retail interface is however moving to require and define a very different urban form. The user now enters the city not via the street but via the parking lot. The retail plot no longer presents to the street. Both the shopper and the shop have uncoupled from the traditional urban fabric and re-positioned their relationship on assigned ground, or more recently on computer screen, unhindered by obligations to the heritage of the street. Although the street may be recalled in the shopping mall, it no longer collects and presents the frontage of the city. The readable understanding of the city by its user has thus changed. This paper, drawing from research on European urban settlements, documents some recent metamorphosis in the relationship between retail plot and public realm. The research methodology draws on cartographic regression, planning documentation, stakeholder interviews and settlement analysis, using a sample of 66 towns in Ireland. From its findings the paper concludes that the street, together with its support structure, is under significant relegation, with potential loss of purpose.Pozycja Aerogel applications in textile materials(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2022) Karabulut, Cengiz; Başyiğit, Zeynep Ömeroğulları; Ünsal, Cem; Toprakkaya Kut, Y. DilekThe production of materials that will provide the high-performance properties required by today's technology is important for many sectors. Apart from meeting clothing and shelter needs, there is a direct or indirect rising need for the use of advanced textile materials in many different areas. Compared to the conventional materials, aerogel materials attract attention due to their ultra-lightweight structure with superior properties such as high specific surface area, high porosity, low density, low dielectric constant, excellent sound, and heat insulation. In addition, for the functional use of aerogel materials in the industry, mechanical properties such as modulus of elasticity, tensile-compressive strength, shear modulus, and impact strength are also important. When the literature on aerogel since the early 1930s is examined, it is seen that the studies mostly focused on application areas and more economical production ways. Although the most established application of aerogels in textiles is to improve thermal insulation, it is seen that they are also used in water repellency, air and water permeability, acoustic insulation, prevention of electromagnetic radiation, protection against chemicals, flame retardancy and treatment of textile process wastes. In this article, besides general information about aerogel, current aerogel application examples in textile materials are also included.Pozycja Affective Pathfinding in Video Games(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2018) Daszuta, Marcin; Wróbel, Filip; Rynkiewicz, Filip; Szajerman, Dominik; Napieralski, PiotrTo allow player submerge in created environment of a video game, agents called Non-Player Characters (NPCs) should act believably. One of the most vital aspect, in case of NPCs is pathfinding. There are a few methods that allow change path finding algorithms to become more human-like. Yet, those are not considering many vital aspects of human decisions regarding path choosing. The main purpose of this paper is to present known approaches and show example of a new approach that wider considers psychological aspects of decision making in case of choosing a path.Pozycja AI-driven Ecodriving and ETA Solutions for Truck Transport(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2023) Lipiński, Piotr; Morawski, Michał; Napieralski, Piotr; Nowok, Paweł; Zawiślak, Bartosz; Hojdys, Leszek; Lazar, Marcin; Lazarek, Przemysław; Zając, Norbert; Pizoń, Sylwester; Jakubiec, Rafał; Sienkiewicz, Jacek; Gołąbek, Sebastian; Kabocik, Mateusz; Fedrizzi, Szymon; Kuliga, Michał; Frączkiewicz, Mateusz; Malarz, Mirosław; Puchalski, Jarosław; Danysz, Ewa; Grajcarek, MaciejPozycja Algorytmy sterowania sygnalizacją świetlną w procesie optymalizacji stanu skrzyżowań komunikacyjnych w miastach(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2022) Malinowski, Dominik; Labuch, JolantaThis article presents the current state of knowledge on the optimisation of traffic light control systems. In this paper, we present an example of an affective mobile game and compare participants’ opinions after playing two versions of the game, with and without an affective loop. The game was developed using Unity. In the affective version, physiological data is recorded and analysed to detect emotions based on facial expressions and electrodermal activity, which then affects the game. The study with 11 participants showed positive feedback for the game with affective loop.Pozycja Amsterdam’s Post-war Buildings Transformations in Bottom-up Processes. The Role of Municipal Housing Policy, Architects and Collaborative Groups of Future Residents in DIY (Klushuis) Affordable Housing Idea(Lodz University of Technology Press, 2023) Mader MałgorzataDue to the shortage of houses and the rise of housing market prices in Amsterdam, there is a high demand for diversification means of getting a place to live. From the municipal policy and bottom-up engagement, the idea of DIY emerged –the process of involving future residents in existing housing transformation process, which would allow for low-costapartment sale in return for self-managed renovation. The aim of the study is to investigate the process of the investments andevaluate the results in terms of the quality of architecture, socio-economic implications and goals of the sustainabledevelopment policy as well as defining the role of all actors taking part in the process. The objective is to research the examples of successful cooperation between bottom-up movements and municipal policy in order to broaden the view on options forefficient use of post-war housing heritage. The research is based on the case study of 3 DIY processes realized between 2016and 2022 in Amsterdam and it shows that a well conducted process leads to high quality apartments as well as promising socialeffects. Nevertheless its affordability can be questioned, therefore it should rather be treated as an alternative for active middle-class citizens, not as social housing solution.Pozycja AMUseBot: Towards Making the Most out of a Task-oriented Dialogue System(Wydawnictwo Politechniki Łódzkiej, 2023) Christop, Iwona; Dudzic, Kacper; Krzymiński, MikołajThis paper presents AMUseBot, a task-oriented dialogue system designed to assist the user in completing multi-step tasks. Taking into consideration that the fundamental issues with such systems are poor user ratings and high rates of uncompleted tasks, the main goal of the project is to keep the user focused and provide engaging conversations. We approach these problems by the introduction of dynamic multimodal communication and graph-based task management.
